Crossroads uses an enrollment approach to serving the homeless. One of our differences from some other Atlanta providers is that our commitment is to work with those who are ready to make changes in their lives. When a non-disabled homeless person comes to us, he or she is enrolled in a three-month program—the Renewal Project—that provides both immediate safety and security and the tools people need for long term self-sufficiency. Our expectation is that within 90 days enrollees will take significant steps out of homelessness.
The homeless who have a physical or mental disability are enrolled in a longer-term program, Angels Over Atlanta. That program is focused on stabilizing a person’s situation, securing entitlement benefits like Social Security Disability, locating safe housing, and helping the mentally impaired to manage their resources.
We also offer an intensive program for women, the Empowering Women of Atlanta, that provides special supportive services to women and children.
Any person enrolled in a Crossroads program is provided a hot meal daily in Clyde’s Kitchen. Other core services include:
The Help Office, which provides referrals for housing, employment, addiction treatment, clothing and legal issues and secures birth certificates so that persons can get legal identification
Mailroom services to help guests establish an address so they can get identification cards, food stamps or assistance checks, voter registration cards and personal mail
A daily medical clinic staffed by Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care.
In addition to these core services, Crossroads operates Atlanta Cooks, a 3 month food service training program that enables graduates to secure employment in the food service industry, and offers weekly Bible study and counseling services for guests seeking spiritual renewal and guidance.
